Kamala Niketan was envisioned by Mrs Geethanjali Sathiamoorthy to replace rote-based teaching with experiential and inquiry-based learning and to equip students with life skills. It began with the foundation of Tiny Tots in 1991 and started with 30 students. It has grown to a 6.5-acre campus in the heart of Trichy, and there are over 60 digitised classrooms and labs, supported by a qualified and dedicated staff.

The Indian Public School group opened its first campus in Erode in 2004. The Trichy campus launched a Kindergarten Campus on 15 September 2019, initiating its early-years program. In 2022 a dedicated IB PYP and Cambridge lower secondary campus opened, integrating IB, Cambridge and CBSE. By 2024 Cambridge IGCSE cohorts achieved a 100% pass rate and CBSE affiliation for Grades 9–10 was secured, and the group joined ISP. In 2025 TIPS Trichy earned IB PYP authorization as the city's first IB PYP school, followed by campus expansion including a new secondary block and a large auditorium.
