About international schools in Taiwan
American-curriculum international schools in Taiwan teach primarily in English and follow U.S.-style grade levels and high-school credentials, most commonly offering a U.S. high-school diploma and Advanced Placement (AP) courses; some campuses also run parallel programmes (IB or other diplomas) in the upper years. Mandarin is taught widely as a modern language, and several schools offer stronger bilingual or Mandarin-immersion options alongside English-medium instruction. Fees vary considerably by city and school size: many Taipei programmes sit in the mid-range of local international fees, but flagship American schools can charge substantially more; families should also budget for one-off capital or registration levies, transport, meals and external exam fees. Admissions usually follow the northern-hemisphere school year (term starts in August/September), decisions are often made on a rolling basis in the spring for the following year, and popular campuses commonly require applications six to twelve months in advance; note that most schools for international residents are restricted by Taiwan’s Ministry of Education to children who hold non-ROC passports. Practical relocation factors include school location (Taipei, Taichung and Kaohsiung host the largest choice), availability of after-school care or EAL support, and the need to confirm visa/residency paperwork before enrolment.
