The Melbourne Japanese School is located in Caulfield South, Victoria. It began as Melbourne Japanese Language School in 1968, and later became a full‑time overseas educational facility in 1986. The Victorian Government approved the full‑time Melbourne Japanese School on April 14, 1986, and the school opened on May 13, 1986, with a bus service starting on June 27, 1986. The curriculum follows the Japanese national guidelines and is taught by teachers dispatched from Japan's Ministry of Education (MEXT) for Prep through Year 9. In September 2025 the school celebrated its 40th anniversary.
English education is strengthened by both Japanese teachers and native‑English‑speaking teachers, with after‑school English clubs for New Comer Club and English Club. The school also conducts exchanges with local Australian schools, where students visit each other's campuses to learn practical English and Australian culture. Open School initiatives encourage attendance and involvement from families, with the School Council coordinating daily communications and events such as Melko Day, the Japan Festival, and Sports Day. The on‑site library houses more than 7,000 Japanese books and more than 2,000 English books.

Located in Caulfield South, The Japanese School of Melbourne is an independent school delivering Prep to Year 9 education under the Japanese national curriculum.
