The school offers the Advanced Placement Program with 34 AP courses and exams, allowing students to pursue university-level study while in high school. AP exams are administered in May, and qualifying scores can earn college credit or advanced standing at universities worldwide. AIS-Salzburg has participated in AP since 1983 and provides AP courses across English, History and Social Science, Math and Computer Science, Sciences, and World Languages and Cultures. The AP program includes the AP International Diploma (APID) for students who meet multiple AP exam requirements across disciplines.
AIS-Salzburg offers the Salzburg Concert Series, enabling students to attend high-quality concerts in Salzburg, with all costs covered by the school. Artists and groups include the University Orchestra Salzburg, Franciscan Church Orchestra, Mozarteum Orchestra, Musikum Salzburg, Musisches Gymnasium Orchestra and Chorus, Schlosskonzerte, Bach Gesellschaft, and others. Attendance is voluntary and students who register are expected to commit to attending.
New students participate in two weekend events in September to introduce them to Salzburg's culture and history through guided tours of important sites. Salzburg History and Culture activities provide an insider view of the city's traditions. World language and culture offerings include AP language and culture courses such as AP French Language and Culture, AP German Language and Culture, and AP Spanish Language and Culture.
Weekend Activities include a mix of healthy activities (hiking or skiing in the Alps, swimming, high rope course, canyoning, biking, and dance) and entertainment options (movie night, arts and crafts, no bake activities, backyard games). The Horseback Riding Club provides instruction through local professionals and welcomes both beginners and more experienced riders.
Fall and Winter Excursions occur twice annually, with trips to destinations around Europe and experiences that include museums and cultural sites. A Weekend Travel Program offers up to six overnight trips per school year to locations such as Vienna, Munich, Nürnberg, Innsbruck, and Stuttgart. AIS-Salzburg also includes junior service trips as part of its excursions.
AIS-Salzburg provides a college-placement counselor to assist students with university selection and applications, particularly during the junior and senior years. An Advanced Placement Coordinator oversees testing, and AIS-Salzburg serves as a testing center for SAT and AP Examinations.
AIS-Salzburg emphasizes competitive athletics and a wide range of sports and outdoor activities, with opportunities for weekend adventures and off-campus excursions. The resident staff focuses on physical education and student wellbeing, and students can join a local health club at a reduced rate for fitness.
AIS-Salzburg is an independent international boarding school in Salzburg, Austria, founded in 1976. It serves students in grades 7–12 with an optional post‑graduate year, and maintains a small campus culture with about 100 students at full capacity to support guidance.
