Resources and spaces that support learning and development

Facilities Overview

Nestled in Grinzing in northwestern Vienna, Svenska Skolan i Wien is housed in a charming villa surrounded by nature. The campus features two beautiful gardens and is located near playgrounds, forests, and hills. This setting provides opportunities for exploration, adventure, and outdoor learning experiences. Lönneberga is the bilingual kindergarten of the Swedish School in Vienna, with Swedish and German spoken equally, and it offers daily outdoor play in one of its two playgrounds.

Academic Facilities

Primary Education follows the Swedish curriculum, Lgr 22, for grades 1–6. Since 2012, the school has been granted Öffentlichkeitsrecht by the Austrian School Board for grades 1–6, authorizing legally recognized report cards (Schulzeugnisse) and facilitating transitions to Austrian or international schools. Education takes place in small groups with a high teacher-to-student ratio, and all teachers are fully qualified and engage in ongoing professional development. The program blends the Swedish curriculum with Austrian standards. Language learning is a priority, with four German lessons per week in grades 2–6 and two per week in grade 1, delivered by native-speaking teachers in Swedish, German, and English. Digitalisation is emphasized: each class has iPads and Chromebooks, and every classroom is equipped with a projector.

Extra-Curricular Activities

The after-school program runs every weekday from the end of lessons until 5 PM for preschool through grade 6. It is led by Swedish, German, and English-speaking staff, supporting language development. The program combines structured and free play with outdoor activities and social skill development, and includes a daily small, healthy snack. Special events such as holiday parties, movie days, and park excursions are organized, along with small-group activities like baking, crafting, and movie-making tailored to children's interests.
