The Swedish School in Vienna was founded in 1986 and is a private Swedish foreign school offering a Kindergarten, Preschool Class, and Elementary School, as well as Swedish supplementary teaching. Activities follow the Swedish curriculum and the school serves children of all nationalities. Scandinavian pedagogy is provided in small teaching groups with a high teacher-to-student ratio, and lessons are taught in Swedish and German by qualified teachers and native speakers, with English taught in English lessons and after-school care. The school has Öffentlichkeitsrecht, meaning Austrian authorities approve the Swedish school's activities, and is located in a large villa in Grinzing, northwest Vienna, near green areas, with Vienna's vineyards and Wienerwald as neighbors.
Throughout the year, the school organizes events to enrich students' experiences, including theater visits, song performances, hiking tours, and visits to traditional wine taverns (Heuriger). We also celebrate Swedish and Austrian traditions and participate in cultural events from both countries. The Grinzing location in Vienna's 19th district offers a tranquil, green environment for families, surrounded by nature, and supports learning and growth. Small class sizes and a multilingual staff create a safe, warm learning environment that fosters long-term connections and a tight-knit community.
