Introduction

European School Brussels II (EEB2) operates a multilingual system where students learn in one of eight distinct language sections, including English, French, and German. The school follows the European Schools curriculum, which culminates in the European Baccalaureate, a diploma recognized for university entry across Europe and beyond. Located in the residential Woluwe-Saint-Lambert area, the campus includes specialized facilities such as the Salle Polyvalente for theater and a dedicated library hosting creative events like Poetry Week. The school is particularly known for its Climate Academy, a student-led initiative where participants conduct research on environmental literacy and collaborate with international partners. Outside of the classroom, pupils participate in unique traditions like Footfest, an annual community gathering, and the Inter-European School Mathematical Competition. Students also engage in cross-campus events such as the European Schools' Science Symposium, where they present original scientific projects and podcasts, fostering a practical connection to scientific inquiry within a multicultural community.

Academics

European School Brussels II - Woluwe Site teaches Bespoke Curriculum for students aged 4 to 18.

Curriculum

The Woluwe campus has three cycles: Nursery, Primary and Secondary, and nine language sections: Dutch-speaking, English-speaking, Finnish, French-speaking, German-speaking, Italian, Lithuanian, Portuguese and Swedish. It follows the European Schools curriculum and offers the European Baccalaureate diploma. Gifted and Talented

A 'Challenge club' is available for gifted students from P4 and P5; these pupils are challenged in class through differentiation and additional activities.

Wellbeing

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

The psycho-emotional balance plays a major role in learning. The school presents many initiatives to ensure the well-being of students in the secondary school. The Guidance Team coaches and listens to students and covers all language sections; they can meet at school or on Teams and communicate with parents and staff. The Educational Advisers provide guidance on conflict management, learning or emotional issues and coordinate communication between students, parents and the administration. The Care Team meets weekly to review socio-emotional, psychological or learning situations of students with special needs and to define points of action. The Secondary Programme promotes 8 Life Skills, discussed during Class Time, to foster a positive classroom dynamic.

Special Educational Needs (SEN)

Educational support in the secondary cycle is available for students with special educational difficulties or needs. The Secondary Educational Support Coordinators are Mr. Fabio Russo (S1-S2) and Mrs. Geraldine Gatto Roissard (S3-S7). General information on Educational Support and Inclusive Education is available through the school's services. The Care Team reviews students' socio-emotional, psychological or learning situations and defines actions for each case. The page references Educational Support guidelines and presentations on Educational Support & Inclusive Education in Secondary.

Mental Wellbeing

Mental well-being is central to student support. The well-being framework includes access to school psychologists and well-being resources. The Educational Advisers provide guidance on emotional issues and coordinate with the Guidance Team and psychologists. The Guidance Team offers confidential coaching and can meet in person or via Teams. The Care Team coordinates long-term support for pupils and monitors socio-emotional and learning needs. A Secondary Programme to promote 8 Life Skills supports social-emotional development.

Safeguarding

The school is committed to safeguarding and to creating an inclusive and safe community. Activities include dialogues on bystander intervention and healthy relationships. There is a form for witnesses or victims of sexual transgression. The information transmitted via this form is confidential and accessible only to the FLAG-team. The FLAG policy (Policy against Sexually Transgressive Behaviour) governs these protections. GDPR rules apply to data handling.

Admissions

Admissions

1. Eligibility request via the Enrolments Portal to access the online application form. The link to the enrolment or transfer application becomes available as from 7 January 2025 on the intranets of the European institutions and from the enrolment secretariats of the Brussels school/site corresponding to the first preference.
2. The online procedure is organized in two steps: eligibility request via the enrolments portal to access the online application form, followed by the submission of the enrolment or transfer application once access has been granted. Applications must be submitted online via the Enrolment Portal and, where applicable, attachments in PDF (see Annex V of the Enrolment Policy) within the required deadlines.
3. Language section selection and L1: A fundamental principle is that pupils are enrolled in the language section corresponding to their mother tongue/dominant language (L1) where a section exists; if no L1 section exists, pupils are enrolled in a vehicular language section and attend SWALS as L1. The Director determines L1 and changes to L1 require compelling pedagogical reasons; should a new language section be created, SWALS pupils with that language as L1 transfer automatically to the new section; L1 determination is definitive in principle.
4. Calendar, deadlines and information sessions: The calendar and enrolment procedure are published and deadlines apply for online submission; as of 7 January 2025 the enrolment link is available via intranets and enrolment secretariats. The enrolment secretariats will be closed from 21 July to 15 August 2025.
5. Information sessions and welcome tour: Individual visits or Open Days are not organised due to limited access to the Woluwe site; a welcome meeting followed by a guided tour will be arranged before the start of the new school year. For pedagogical information, refer to the School's website and the enrolment contacts listed.
