Bermuda High School for Girls

1. Entry points and structure: BHS serves the Early Years Programme through the Senior Years Programme. The main entry points are EYP, Year 1, Year 4, Year 7 and Year 12. BHS is Bermuda's only school for girls from EYP to Year 11; boys are welcome to join for Years 12 and 13. The campus is located in Hamilton; the main building dates back to 1899 and the newest section was completed in September 2020. 2. Rolling admissions and availability: Admissions are rolling and placement is subject to availability based on class size. There is a 40-spot limit for EYP, and it is strongly encouraged to apply for EYP at least two years in advance. 3. EYP & Year 1 entry: Early application and registration is available for EYP and Year 1. When qualified applications exceed places, preferences go to siblings and daughters of alumni whose application was submitted within two years of birth; thereafter, decisions are made with regard to timing of the application. 4. Years 2–11 admissions: Applications for Years 2-11 will be accepted in the proposed years of entry, as BHS offers admissions on a rolling basis. Placement is based on the results of the entrance assessment/examination. Year 7 applicants who wish to be scholarship candidates must sit examinations during the academic year of entry. 5. Senior Years Programme admissions: Applicants may be required to sit subject placement tests in English, Mathematics and Science. All applicants and their parents will be invited for an interview. Final admission decisions are communicated by email after this meeting. 6. Admission forms and documents: Inquiries and fully completed applications should be sent to the Director of Admissions and Inclusion, accompanied by the non-refundable application fee of $75 or $100. 7. Financial aid and primary bursaries: There are bursaries and scholarships available for entry into Years 4–6 (and related primary entry context). 8. Scholarships are available for entry into Years 4, 5, 6 and 7. Scholarships are merit-based or awarded according to specific scholarship criteria, and may be supplemented by needs-based bursaries. Scholarships are awarded in May/June each year, and recipients receive letters confirming their awards; scholarship funds are credited to the fee account. Entrance exam results are used to determine scholarship eligibility, and all students who take the entrance exam are eligible for scholarships and/or bursaries; scholarships can range from $2,000 to $5,000. Bursaries are based on financial need, with bursary awards starting at $3,000 and potentially up to 50% of school fees; bursaries are reviewed annually and may change based on financial factors. Over $1 million in financial aid is awarded annually to eligible families; financial aid forms are available in January and due back in April, with selections made in March/April for the following school year. Scholarships are awarded for entry into Years 4–7 and may be funded by external partners or company-sponsored programs; terms and amounts can vary by year.
