1. Enrollment is in progress. For the school year 2022/2023 you can apply for enrolling your child for preschool through 8th Grade. The International German School Sarajevo welcomes students from all cultural and ethnic backgrounds regardless of nationality, race, religion or gender. New students are admitted on the basis of previous academic records and references, as well as a personal interview. 2. New students are selected by the principal. The admissions process includes review of prior academic records and references and a personal interview. 3. Lessons are held in German, English and B/H/S (Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian). Preference to enrollment is given to children who know all or some of the above-mentioned languages. Proficiency in the German, English and B/H/S languages is preferable, but not strictly required.
IDSS Fellows Scholarship - Scholarships for Gifted Students. The International German School Sarajevo offers scholarships awarding 100% and 50% discounts to gifted and high-achieving students from 1st to 9th grade who have completed a significant piece of work in fields such as Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, Literature, Music, Philosophy and Outside the Box. One talented student is awarded the full scholarship each year, and another receives a 50% scholarship; The scholarship body makes a final decision after reviewing the student assessment. Applications open on November 1 of the current year, and the deadline for applications is February 11 of the upcoming year; Applicants must be attending IDSS from the application deadline. Scholarships are awarded based on significant work as defined by the scholarship body, which may include exceptionally creative application of existing knowledge, a new high-impact idea, or an innovative solution with broad implications.
Internationale Deutsche Schule Sarajevo (IDSS) is a private institution offering preschool and primary education (grades I-IX) based on the German curriculum, harmonized with Sarajevo Canton plan. Classes are taught in German, with English and Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian used to support communication and literacy. IDSS began in 2011 as a Montessori kindergarten and evolved into a primary German school that builds on Montessori principles while introducing students to the language and culture of Germany. The program provides a balanced sequence of subjects across linguistic-literary-artistic, mathematical-scientific-technical, and social studies areas, with holistic development through Arts, Physical Education, and Character Education. It emphasizes individualized learning, enrichment, and extracurricular activities, alongside continual curriculum improvement. Facilities include a library with books and technology, a nutritious dining service, and a playground. An Afternoon Program offers structured enrichment in languages, STEM, music and drama, and sports, with a healthy snack and flexible scheduling. A DaF program supports German proficiency.
