Internationale Deutsche Schule Sarajevo (IDSS) is a private institution offering preschool and primary education (grades I-IX) based on the German curriculum, harmonized with Sarajevo Canton plan. Classes are taught in German, with English and Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian used to support communication and literacy. IDSS began in 2011 as a Montessori kindergarten and evolved into a primary German school that builds on Montessori principles while introducing students to the language and culture of Germany. The program provides a balanced sequence of subjects across linguistic-literary-artistic, mathematical-scientific-technical, and social studies areas, with holistic development through Arts, Physical Education, and Character Education. It emphasizes individualized learning, enrichment, and extracurricular activities, alongside continual curriculum improvement. Facilities include a library with books and technology, a nutritious dining service, and a playground. An Afternoon Program offers structured enrichment in languages, STEM, music and drama, and sports, with a healthy snack and flexible scheduling. A DaF program supports German proficiency.
