It's best to ask — circumstances can change at any time.
Liger grew from the Liger Charitable Foundation founded by Trevor and Agnieszka Gile in July 2009. Construction on the Phnom Penh campus began in 2009 and the campus opened in December 2011, with the first cohort arriving in August 2012. The original model operated as a residential scholarship program run by the Liger Charitable Foundation (later the Liger Leadership Academy Foundation). After more than a decade as a foundation-backed program, the Academy began transitioning to a fee-paying, yearly intake model with operational support from the American University of Phnom Penh (AUPP) in 2024–2025. The school has continued to adapt its curriculum from STEM toward a broader STEEAM and project-based approach as part of that transition.
AUPP Liger's community centers on multi-year student cohorts, residential life for some students, and project-based STEEAM learning that connects classroom work to local and regional projects. Students and staff regularly host and participate in public events and competitions. Examples in the school timeline include TEDxLigerLeadershipAcademy, the Khmer Literature and Culture Festival, national and regional STEAM and robotics competitions, and community events such as “Action Hope.” The Academy also runs collaborative events and hackathons that bring other schools, NGOs and partners into campus activities.
The school does not present a formal, named Parent–Teacher Association. Instead, parent involvement is described through admissions interviews, communications, and participation in public school events. Parents and family members commonly attend public events documented in the timeline (for example graduation ceremonies, the Khmer Literature and Culture Festival, TEDx and community-facing events like “Action Hope”), and the Academy publishes contact details for general enquiries if parents want to propose a formal group or ask about volunteering.
Liger Leadership Academy is a residential secondary school on a five acre campus about twelve kilometres east of central Phnom Penh. The academy uses a school developed STEEAM curriculum delivered through core classes in English, Khmer literacy, mathematics and science, nine week project based Explorations, and advanced options including Advanced Placement coursework and international standardized tests. Students live on campus: junior dormitories house students aged eleven to fourteen in three bedroom dorms with a maximum of fifteen per dorm, and senior apartments accommodate students aged fifteen to eighteen in self contained units. Instruction is English immersion and Khmer language arts is taught four hours per week. The Liger diploma is recognised by Cambodia's Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport. Campus facilities include Innovation Center, science laboratories, study halls, dining assembly spaces, a clinic, sports courts, a swimming pool and a football field. The school provides transport to and from campus.
