Parent Experience

Community, involvement and what it's like to be a parent at this school

History

iCAN British International School was established in the early 2000s; public records and profiles report the foundation in the 2003–2004 range. The school expanded its campus and learning spaces as it grew — sources note a move into a larger purpose-built facility in 2006. In October 2025 Chip Mong Group announced a major investment in iCAN, indicating recent external investment and a change in the school's financial backing. School leadership has signalled continuity of leadership over many years, with the principal describing a long-term commitment dating from 2004.

Community

The school describes an active, family-oriented community where parents are invited into learning through family learning days, coffee mornings, drop-in afternoons, curriculum evenings, unit exit points and child‑led conferences. Weekend and out‑of‑school activities — for example kite flying, family movie nights and city tuk‑tuk races — are used to build relationships between families and staff. The school keeps a calendar and newsfeed for upcoming community events so families can follow and join activities.

Parent-Teacher Association

The school website does not publish a dedicated Parent Teacher Association (PTA) page; instead, parental involvement is organised through school-led events and opportunities for parent participation. Typical parent-facing activities listed on the site include coffee mornings, family learning days, curriculum evenings, child‑led conferences and weekend community events — these are the main channels for parents to engage and volunteer. For parents wanting to get directly involved or to ask about any parent‑run groups, the site lists contact points: the Primary Leader (rosie_tamblyn@ican.edu.kh) and the School Coordinator (sophak_chhim@ican.edu.kh). If you need, I can contact the school (via the addresses above) to ask whether there is an active PTA committee, current parent‑led groups, or records of recent parent-organised activities and report back.

iCAN British International School is an English-medium primary school in central Phnom Penh that delivers the International Primary Curriculum (IPC) alongside the National Curriculum for England and an Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) programme called iCAN PLAY. The school's Early Years provision covers children aged about 2–5 years and the primary programme runs through Year 6 (age 11). Class sizes are capped so that one learning facilitator is assigned for up to 20 children. The school publishes its annual tuition schedule on the website (fees vary by year group and by academic year). iCAN offers after-school activities and specialist teaching in art, music, PE/sport, swimming and modern languages; younger learners also receive weekly Khmer lessons. The campus address and a Google Maps link are provided on the school contact page.
