Language Provision

Language learning opportunities and multilingual education

Language Provision

The school runs a bilingual program with English as the language of instruction from preschool through 8th grade. SELP (Sheltered English Learning Programme) supports new students transitioning to the bilingual curriculum, and Cambridge English examinations are available (Starters, Movers, KET, PET, FCE). The program incorporates bilingual literacy development using international methodologies (e.g., IEYC in early years).

Bilingual Teaching

From preschool through 8th grade, students are immersed daily in English, with subjects taught in English and Cambridge certifications. The program uses active learning methodologies and includes IEYC in the early years. Bilingual teachers are highly trained, with Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol (SIOP) certification since 2020, and a Bilingual Academic Leader (BAL) coordinates bilingual learning.

Immersion Programs

An International Exchange Program provides five weeks of total English immersion by studying at Cognita partner schools in the United Kingdom. It is open to Cognita network students from 7th grade through III Medio. Exchange activities include a London-based itinerary and organized experiences; dates listed for 2026-2027 include 1st exchange (Nov 4–Dec 11, 2026) and 2nd exchange (Jan 6–Feb 12, 2027).

American British School is a bilingual day school for ages 2 to 18. The early years follow the International Early Years Curriculum (IEYC), while Cambridge Primary and Cambridge Secondary guide the core program. The school is coeducational and delivers daily English immersion, with bilingual teachers trained in the Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol (SIOP) and a Bilingual Academic Leader coordinating learning, assessment, and professional development. Reading and writing are developed with Phonics and Writer's Workshop in early years, and with Reader's Theater and Book Club in the later grades. After completing the bilingual program in 8th grade, students may participate in a two-week International Exchange in London. Since 2023 a Bilingual Student Summit connects Cognita bilingual schools in Chile, with ESU support. On campus, facilities include Computing and Science Laboratory, Library, Audiovisual Room, classrooms, labs, sports areas, patios, and gardens, with spaces scheduled to align with the program. Extracurriculars include Workshops and Academies, plus leadership and entrepreneurship programs such as Líderes del mañana and Emprendimiento Empresarial.
