The Scuola Italiana Vittorio Montiglio was founded in 1891 by Italian emigrants who sought to preserve and transmit the language and culture of their homeland. The Italian mutual-aid society proposed founding the school to Italians in Chile. It is a private, secular, co-educational institution serving nursery through secondary levels and is part of the Chilean education system; it has been recognized as a paritarian school since 2005, with parità granted across all levels and the high school recognized as a Scientific Lyceum. By 2025 the school educated about 1,447 students across the levels.
The Italian-Chilean cultural exchange is the mechanism for achieving common educational outcomes, uniting both cultures from the tradition of Italian families. Centro dei Genitori (Center of Parents) is an association with a legal personality that follows its own statute and is elected every two years by representatives from all classes; its functions include involving parents in complying with school regulations, promoting parent education, understanding educational issues and cooperating on solutions, promoting and supporting pedagogical and cultural initiatives, and collaborating with different areas of the School through periodic class meetings and area micro-centers. Centre for Alumni (Ex Alunni) fosters unity among alumni who wish to maintain a bond with the institution and promotes a bicultural spirit as they collaborate with the School's development. The Paritary Committee provides mandatory insurance for workplace accidents and occupational diseases and is composed of six representatives from the Institution and six workers, three from each side being titular and three substitutes. The Governing Committee, the Corporazione Scuola Italiana Vittorio Montiglio, governs the School from Avenida Las Flores 12707, Las Condes, Santiago; its roster includes President Marina Argandoña Garibaldi, Vice President Claudia De Camino, and counselors Flavio Comunian, Flavia Vaccarezza, Nelson Cannoni, Roberto Montiglio, and Italo Cuneo.
