It's best to ask — circumstances can change at any time.
The school participates in the Plan Islandia initiative in Las Condes to reduce risk factors and strengthen protective factors in children and adolescents. In 2023, the school began implementing the Preventive Seal strategy and is one of twelve pioneer establishments to receive the certification. The plan rests on four pillars: family, school, peer group, and leisure time. Every two years, the school administers the Youth and Wellbeing survey to measure substance use and identify risk and protective factors across family, school, and community. The results are analyzed by a working group including representatives from CASI, CDG, teachers, the Convivencia Escolar team, and the Leadership Team. Protective factors have improved, including reductions in alcohol, tobacco, marijuana, and vaping; higher self-esteem; stronger trust between students and teachers; and better perceived physical and emotional wellbeing; while there are some risk indicators such as increased non-prescribed tranquilizer use and greater emotional distance with parental figures. In response, actions strengthen family-student bonds and include curriculum time to address non-prescribed medications; families are invited to discuss emotions at home; two preventive talks are planned.
English language instruction exists at Scuola Italiana Vittorio Montiglio. An English field trip to Cerro San Cristóbal combined English and science learning, where students from the advanced English class acted as guides and teachers to younger peers; they prepared activities that highlighted natural resources and applied knowledge from science and English, strengthening collaboration and mutual respect within the school community.
Mental wellbeing is monitored within the Plan Islandia framework through the Youth and Wellbeing survey applied every two years, informing actions to promote students' physical and emotional wellbeing. The school notes improvements in wellbeing and self-esteem, with stronger trust between students and staff and a reduction in suicidal-ideation indicators. The school has organized talks in collaboration with the Preventive Network of Schools to support families in guiding their children on mental health and wellbeing.
The Internal School Regulation includes safeguarding protocols addressing rights violations, sexual aggression and acts of sexual connotation, drugs and alcohol, health incidents at school, mental health, and gender identity recognition. Protocols specify procedures for first reporting, keeping information confidential, and coordinating with external services when necessary. The protocols are published for the school community and the Encargado de Convivencia Escolar coordinates their socialization by cycle and stament.
