Parent Experience

Community, involvement and what it's like to be a parent at this school

History

The Grange School is a coeducational school for pupils aged 4 to 18 in Santiago, Chile. Its philosophy is founded on the traditions of the English Public Schools, whose principles are rooted in universal values. The ethos and reputation were established by its founder, Mr John A S Jackson, and by its first Headmaster, Mr John Jackson. The school sits near the Andean mountain range in Santiago, reflecting its location in one of Latin America's vibrant cities. Founder's Day has been observed since 1959 to commemorate the founder.

Community

Old Grangonian Day is a yearly tradition inviting the entire Grange community, with activities including sports matches between Old Grangonians and pupils, the FOGSS Solidarity Bazaar, The GRAF, music and drama presentations, The British & Commonwealth Fire and Rescue Company J.A.S. Jackson, and a Consulta Ciudadana stand from the Municipalidad de La Reina. Founder's Day is observed annually since 1959 to honour the founder, Mr John A.S Jackson, with wreath-laying by representatives of the Jackson family, the John Jackson Educational Foundation (FEJJ), the School's Board, Old Grangonian Club, Grangonian Spirit of Service Foundation (FOGSS), The British and Commonwealth Fire & Rescue Company “J.A.S. Jackson”, and Union of the School; the 2026 ceremony takes place on Friday, March 13th. Remembrance Day is observed on 11 November with the School's Ceremony of Remembrance at the Jackson Building, remembering pupils who served in the Second World War, featuring a Poppy tribute and donations to The Royal British Legion. Cross Country is a major event with pupils from Prekinder to 4ºEM, plus parents and Old Grangonians; the next edition is scheduled for May 23rd, 2026.

The Grange School is a British international, coeducational school in Santiago, Chile, serving ages 4 to 18. Its ethos follows English public school traditions and four pillars: Academic, Sport, Arts and Service. The curriculum is bilingual and UK-inspired, with English as the main language of instruction. Lower Prep uses the English Early Years Foundation Stage framework for Prekinder and Kinder, while 1º–2º Básico blends the Chilean National Curriculum with the English National Curriculum. Upper Prep (3º–6º Básico) uses English/National Curriculum syllabuses alongside Chilean requirements, with specialist teaching in Music, Drama, Art and Design Technology. Senior School (7º Básico–4º EM) combines the Chilean curriculum with Cambridge IGCSE and A-Levels; English is a separate subject and many subjects use English textbooks; pupils are bilingual by Senior School. The Grange sits on a 92,000 m2 site with 30,108 m2 built. Facilities include two gyms, a 25-metre pool, a large field (divisible into three pitches) with a 200-metre track, an all-weather hockey pitch, bespoke spaces for music, art and drama, and planned IT enhancements. The Grange Arts Festival (GRAF) and extensive cocurriculars, after-school activities, and international tours enrich learning. English language support is available in seventh grade, and French workshops are offered; leadership and public speaking are fostered through the Duke of Edinburgh Award and MUN.
