Community, involvement and what it's like to be a parent at this school

History

Founded in 1975, The International Preparatory School is a small international school located on beautiful grounds in the foothills of the Andes in Santiago, Chile. It provides education for children from 3 to 19 years old, beginning in Playgroup and continuing to Year 13 (Grade 12), in personalized classes of no more than 15 students. It operates with a Cambridge-based curriculum and full English instruction, supported by a nurturing atmosphere and dedicated staff. The school year runs from March to mid-December and is divided into two semesters, with an optional Summer School programme in January; there are three weeks of winter vacation in July and one week in September for Chilean National Holidays. The school is a Cambridge International Examinations centre, authorized to administer IGCSE and AS & A Levels, and is regularly inspected by the U.S. State Department and the British Council; it is accredited by the Chilean Ministry of Education through Year 9 (Grade 8).

Community

The house system promotes greater integration among students of all ages and cultural backgrounds and encourages cooperation and teamwork, with older students organizing many activities for their houses. In addition to regular classes, extracurricular activities after school include tennis, 3D Printing, football (soccer), basketball, karate, music, and other activities, contributing to a close-knit school community. There are two progress reports during the year, and parent-teacher meetings are scheduled at least twice a year, with opportunities for additional meetings if needed. The atmosphere is nurturing with dedicated staff who support students' growth.
