Opened in fall 2022, BASIS International & Bilingual Schools Chengdu is BASIS's first campus to house both international and bilingual curricula in one location. It serves students in Pre-K through 10 initially, with plans to extend to Grade 12 and a capacity of over 1,800 students. The campus is located in a new high-tech area in southwest Chengdu (the Bio-Tech district), with green spaces and proximity to the Chengdu airport. Founding teachers were introduced to the BASIS model during the Summer Institute training in fall 2022 as the campus began operations.
Chengdu BASIS has a diverse, international community with families from many nationalities; this network extends across BASIS campuses in China, creating opportunities for cross-campus collaboration. The campus hosts family-oriented programs such as a staff-and-families travel club that arranges monthly social and cultural excursions in and around Chengdu. BASIS China also runs cross-campus events, such as the China Art Festival 2025, where Chengdu led the planning and coordination for artworks and festival logistics. The campus hosts cultural celebrations like a Chinese New Year Fair, featuring music performances, lantern-making, and traditional games.
Public documentation describes parent involvement at BASIS International & Bilingual Schools Chengdu mainly through family-friendly programs and cross-campus events rather than a formal PTA. The Chengdu Travel Club, led by the founding Vice Head of High School, connects faculty, staff, and families with monthly social and cultural outings and includes participation by students and a parent of a teacher. Cross-campus events, such as the China Art Festival 2025, involve Chengdu and other BASIS campuses, with Chengdu leading planning and coordination. Cultural celebrations at BASIS Chengdu, including a Chinese New Year Fair with music, lantern making, and traditional games, illustrate active family engagement in campus life. These activities reflect a culture of family involvement in BASIS Chengdu, even in the absence of publicly documented PTA structures.
