Parent Experience

Community, involvement and what it's like to be a parent at this school

History

The French International School of Guangzhou (Lycée Français International de Canton, LFIC) was established in 1997 and since then has been the only school in Guangzhou delivering the French national curriculum. The school is part of the AEFE network of French schools abroad. LFIC is managed by a non‑profit parents' association (Association des parents d'élèves) under French law and its governance includes a Comité de gestion, a Conseil d'établissement and a head of school. The school's homologation currently covers preschool through seconde and LFIC is an official examination centre for the Diplôme National du Brevet; the final years of the lycée currently operate in partnership with CNED while accreditation for the terminale cycle is pursued.

Community

The LFIC community is multicultural, with more than 25 nationalities represented among students and families. Parents, students and staff come together for regular school events and celebrations; recent items on the school news feed include a CM2 graduation ceremony, end‑of‑year performances and participation in ecological challenges. The school also offers a broad programme of daily extracurricular activities (sports, arts, languages and cultural clubs) that involve teachers and external providers and provide frequent opportunities for family participation.

Parent-Teacher Association

The school is governed by an Association des parents d'élèves (an Association Loi 1901), of which all parents are automatically members; its statutes and minutes are available to members on request. Each October the Association holds an Assemblée Générale to elect the members of the Comité de gestion and the parent representatives who will sit on the Conseil d'établissement for the school year. The Comité de gestion is responsible for proposing the budget, deciding investments, recruiting staff and helping to animate school life through events and internal communication. By statute the Consul General of France in Guangzhou and the school's Attaché for scientific and university cooperation sit on the Comité de gestion as members of right. Parents can contact the Comité de gestion via comitedegestion@lficanton.com for questions or to consult meeting reports and documents.

It accepts children from toute petite section (from 2 years) through terminale; the school is homologated by the French Ministry from maternelle to seconde and runs the terminale cycle with CNED. LFIC delivers a trilingual pathway (French, English and Mandarin) and says it enrolls students from over 25 nationalities. The campus in Jinshazhou (Baiyun District) includes a school cafeteria and daily extracurricular activities; offerings named on the site include a school choir, a student government, a web radio project for older students, and sports associations (basketball, football, table tennis). The school's public pages list annual tuition by section (RMB) and practical information for parents (admissions, financial regulation, scholarships). All facts above are taken from the school's website pages and published tuition PDF.
