Admissions

How to apply, waitlist information, and financial support

Admissions Process

1. Initial contact and brochure. Interested parents should call the director; the director will send a Morgan Rothschild Academy brochure. After receiving and reviewing the brochure, parents should call to set up a visit to MRA. During the visit, interested parents will receive an application and can begin to understand the program and expectations. The process introduces families to the center and outlines the path toward enrollment.

2. Visit and application. During the visit, parents receive the formal application. The application asks how the family heard about MRA and what they are seeking in a childcare center. The director may provide guidance on completing the form and what information to prepare. This step helps the center assess fit and family goals.

3. Reserving a spot. After a tour, confirm with the director that there is an opening in the desired program. To reserve, sign a contract and pay a deposit equal to one month's tuition plus a one-time non-refundable registration fee of RMB 500. A written notice of one month is required to terminate the contract, and the deposit is refundable if cancellation occurs more than 30 days before the scheduled start date. This step secures enrollment and outlines start-date logistics.

4. Waiting list. If no opening is currently available, a waiting list is used. Priority on the waiting list is given first to siblings of currently enrolled children, then to children living in Kang Hong Garden, followed by all other interested children. Within each category, the order is determined by the date of first contact with the center. Families should understand that availability depends on openings and timing.

5. Visitation and orientation. Once a start date is scheduled, the director coordinates a visitation/transition schedule with the family. A parent orientation is arranged to explain routines, language use, daily schedules, and classroom expectations. This period supports a smooth transition for the child and family.

6. Summer program. New applications are accepted if space is available, though openings are rare. The Summer Program “Camp Frolic” is optional and available to children already enrolled at MRA. Families should consider this option if summer enrollment is anticipated, subject to space.

Waitlist

Morgan Rothschild Academy maintains a waiting list to fill openings when they arise. The waiting list prioritizes siblings of currently enrolled children, then children living in Kang Hong Garden, followed by all other applicants. Within each category, the order is determined by the date of first contact with the center.

Morgan Rothschild Academy, established in 2005 in Shanghai, is a bilingual early childhood education program serving approximately 65 students from diverse multicultural backgrounds. The school delivers daily instruction with a 70% English and 30% Chinese language split. Its instructional framework combines the High Scope curriculum model from the United States with a Shanghai Municipal Education Commission-approved curriculum, which was developed by early childhood experts from Harvard and Stanford Universities. Housed on the first and second floors of Building 161 within the Kang Hong Garden complex, the facility includes seven classrooms, floor-heated hallways, child-level restrooms, a spacious ballet room, and two outdoor playgrounds. A key specialized offering is their Virtues Program, which actively focuses on developing positive traits like perseverance, kindness, honesty, and self-discipline alongside essential self-care skills. The academy also hosts a distinctive, seasonal summer program known as “Camp Frolic” to support children's hands-on learning and group socialization.
