Let the school know you're thinking of applying — they can share their prerequisites and help you through the process.
It's best to ask — circumstances can change at any time.
A school uniform is required. The dress code uses a white or blue polo as the main garment. Shirts, sweaters, or any apparel not containing the school logo may not cover the polo. Bottoms must be black or blue and include pants, shorts, skirts, or dresses; blue jeans are allowed if there are no holes, tears, or logos.
Lunch and snacks are provided daily. Early Years receive a warm lunch and two snacks; elementary students receive a warm lunch and one snack. The prepaid daily lunch fee is RMB 35.
Students are divided into four houses: White Tigers, Black Lions, Red Lynx, and Silver Snow Leopards. Houses participate in events to earn points, supporting the school values and fostering mentorship across grades.
The school is Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) accredited since 2009, an official ACT testing site, and a SAT test site. It is a member of SISAC and an ACAMIS partner and is approved by the Chinese Ministry of Education and Shanghai Education Commission.
Shanghai Livingston American School (SLAS) opened its original campus on August 26, 2003 and moved to its current Ganxi Road site in Changning District in January 2005. SLAS follows an American curriculum that aligns with California public-school standards and offers Advanced Placement (AP) courses in the high school program. The school publishes age cutoffs from Nursery (age 2) through Grade 12 and provides a door-to-door school bus service for Shanghai addresses (with published semester rates). SLAS also lists a community-service programme and foreign-language classes (students have taken French, Japanese, Spanish and Chinese), and the school highlights school libraries and arts/music offerings as regular parts of its programme. All facts above are taken from the school website.
