The Upper Secondary Programme provides a study programme across a wide range of subject areas with a balanced mix of practical experience and theoretical knowledge. Phase 2 offers various choices of courses aligned with students' career planning, interests and specialties. A broad selection of electives prepares students for university studies in Business, Finance, Accounting, Economics, Computer Studies, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Engineering, Architecture, Art & Design, Music, and others. Compulsory subjects include English First Language & English Literature; English as a Second Language; English as an Additional Language; Mathematics & CNC Mathematics; Additional Mathematics; Chinese & CNC Chinese; Global Perspectives; YWIES Global Perspectives English; YWIES Physical Education; YWIES Wellness, Life Skills and Moral Education; and YWIES Career and University Guidance.
Fine Arts Classroom supports painting, drawing, sculpture, and screen printing. Fashion Design Classroom enables students to display work in a gallery-style setting and develop presentation skills. Textile Classroom, ICT and Digital Media Lab, and Design and Technology Lab provide spaces for textile work, digital media, and hands-on design, while the Creative Community Centre hosts art exhibitions and school performances.
The Upper Secondary curriculum includes English First Language and English Literature; English as a Second Language; English as an Additional Language; and Chinese with CNC Chinese. Global Perspectives is a compulsory subject, with YWIES Global Perspectives English available for students needing more English support. YWIES Shanghai Gubei is part of the YCYW Network of international schools. Cross-site events within the YCYW network promote collaboration and international exposure.
Electives cover Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Computer Science, History, Geography, Economics, Business Studies, Art and Design, Music, Drama, and Physical Education. IELTS & TOEFL Prep is offered as Subject Support. Students must choose four electives in the first year, including three examined subjects and one Subject Support class; one Science course must be chosen among Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Available electives include English Literature, Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Economics, Business Studies, Psychology, Art and Design, Digital Media, History, Geography, Music, Drama and Physical Education.
