Founded in 1869 by Presbyterian missionary Kate MacFarren, the Colegio Americano de Bogotá began by teaching English to 18 girls. In 1885, Reverend Thomas H. Candor and his wife Margarita established the Colegio Americano for boys. The school now offers a trilingual education in English, Portuguese, and Spanish and has more than 150 years of history, with a deep academic tradition, an international outlook, and a commitment to Christian values and the holistic development of each student. Notable alumni include the daughter of General Rafael Uribe, Dr. Enrique Olaya Herrera, Drs. Luis and Agustín Nieto Caballero (who later founded Gimnasio Moderno), Dr. Luis Carlos Galán Sarmiento, and Dr. Orlando Fals Borda, founder of the Sociology Department at the National University, among others.
Technology, tradition, and sport define the campus. Located in Teusaquillo, the school blends tradition with innovation and offers digital classrooms with connectivity, iPads, and interactive learning resources. Student projects include Panal CAB, a student-led school news program, and Sound CAB, the student-run radio, both designed to inform, inspire, and connect the school community. International leaders in implementing the Virtuous Leadership System shape the Americanista community with character, virtue, and purpose.
