In 1953, the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary arrived in Medelledn to establish a school grounded in Catholic values and English as a second language. The school was founded on Mother Marie Joseph Butlers philosophy, which remains present today. In the 1980s, the Sisters were asked to return to their home community and the families who belonged to the school decided to buy the school, with the Board of Directors handling negotiations. In 1987, Cormary a0 Corporacif3n Educativa Marymount de Medelledn a0 (Cormary) was created to lead the School and determine its academic and philosophical guidelines. In 2005, the school reestablished contact with the Network of Schools of the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary with the purpose of improving foreign language learning, strengthening links with other cultures and sharing best practices in education; it remains a member of the network with schools in Bogote1 and Barranquilla (Colombia); Los Angeles, New York and Montebello (USA); Cuernavaca (Mexico); Belfast (Ireland); London (England); two schools in Rome (Italy); Paris (France); five schools in Brazil; and Oporto, Fatima and Lisbon (Portugal).
Marymount Medelledn maintains a strong non-profit Alumni Association whose main objectives are to keep graduates connected with the school, demonstrate Marymounts history, education, values, and traditions across generations, and support ongoing engagement throughout the Marymount community. MaryTunes is the schools digital radio station, produced by and for all members of the community. Cultural and religious events include Homenaje a la Virgen Mareda, where Preschoolers participate in a procession and older students reflect on the Seven Sorrows of Mary. In 2024 the school began admitting preschool, marking a transition to a mixed-age Marymount community.
In 1975, the Sisters held a meeting with the parents and formed Amigos del Marymount to increase parental participation in school guidance.
