Parent Experience

Community, involvement and what it's like to be a parent at this school

History

The American Academy Nicosia first opened on October 16, 1922 as the American Academy for Girls, a day and boarding school with thirteen students. It relocated to its present premises outside the city walls in 1955 after World War II evacuations. In 1976 the school became independent from its founding mission with a board and in 1977 it became coeducational. The school now offers Pre-School, Primary and Secondary education and is accredited by the Middle States Association (MSA). A centenary book was published and a centenary celebration took place, marking the school's hundred-year history.

Community

The Graduates Network keeps alumni connected, sharing success stories and encouraging mentoring and involvement with current students, with benefits such as updates on school news and reunions. The school has celebrated its centenary with a dedicated centenary book and alumni events. The school hosts events such as the AAN MUN event in November and a Christmas Concert in December as part of its community life. Photo galleries and alumni activities reflect the school's long-running community memories.

Parent-Teacher Association

PTA activities include the PTA Christmas Wonderland/Bazaar, listed in the Academic Calendar for 2024-2025. The PTA fosters parent involvement and community across Pre-School, Primary and Secondary. The event supports school programs through fundraising and social engagement. The school calendar shows PTA-led events as part of the yearly program. The PTA is part of the school's broader family and community network.
