The English School, Nicosia, was founded in 1900 by Canon Frank Darvall Newham, starting with 12 boys in a rented house on Victoria Street. Canon Newham introduced football to Cyprus, and cricket and hockey were added in the early years. By 1911–12 the School moved to premises by the Pedieos River; the Pedieos site opened in 1912 and served until 1934 when the army took over as Wolseley Barracks. In 1962 the School merged with The English School for Girls to become a co‑educational institution, and in 1965 the English School Parents Association (ESPA) was established to foster partnership with parents. The School marks a 125‑year history in 2025.
