The Grammar School was founded in 1963 by Ioannis and Iro Gregoriou after Cyprus College was established in 1961. In 1966 the Grammar School and its boarding premises moved to privately owned premises on a hill near the Nicosia Airport, later known as Gregoriou Hill. In 1970 the Grammar Junior School was founded and two years later the Grammar School became a seven-year curriculum school, with enrolment rising from 95 to 1,200 in nine years. During the Turkish invasion of 1974 the school was bombed and occupied; for the following eight years it operated in rented premises. From 1981 to 1991 the school expanded with clubs and extracurricular activities such as Cultural Evening and Theatre, and emphasised technology, with Akis Gregoriou expanding buildings and facilities; it later established an IT Academy with Microsoft and became the first Microsoft Office Specialist Testing Centre in Nicosia and adopted Microsoft Office 365 to support learning.
Culture & Art offers Music, Choir, Orchestra, Cultural Evening, Music Festival and Talent Show. The Choir consists of about 150 students from Class 1 to Class 7 and performs at concerts, charity events and the annual Cultural Evening. The Orchestra provides ensemble performances, sometimes accompanying the choir. Cultural Evening began in 1985 and remains a highlight of school culture, with performances in music, song, dance and narration; the Music Festival began in 2008 and brings together several public school choirs in addition to The Grammar School.
Parents & Guardians Association aims to cultivate communication between parents, teachers, students and the administration, while fostering a sense of community; it provides lectures and seminars on education, psychology and teen issues and runs fundraising events including the annual dinner dance to support those in need within the school community; awards are presented at the annual Graduation & Awards Ceremony to the top scholars and IGCSE achievers; the SGPA committee is elected annually and membership is open to all parents and guardians. The Teachers Association includes all teachers and has a governing committee that represents staff; it organises social occasions such as a weekend away to build bonds. The Graduates Association, established in 1985, holds elections every two years and organises activities and reunions for graduates; all Grammar School graduates may join by contacting the secretary.
