Ranum Efterskole College is a modern, independent efterskole that shapes the school year and its content in interaction with students and staff. It opened on 1 August 2004 in a former dormitory building at Ranum Seminary. The school's founding involved the board, management, teachers, the town of Ranum and Løgstør Municipality, who worked to fulfil the young people's expectations and to leave a mark on their time at Ranum Efterskole. The first profile newspaper introduced the mission to offer a new profile emphasizing individuality, community, responsibility and tolerance through nature, art, music and multimedia. In 2024-25 Ranum Efterskole College celebrated its 20th anniversary with a large anniversary party.
Committed community is ensured through small contact groups and family groups with contact teachers who look after the well-being and safety of the community. Students eat together and help with practical tasks. Active everyday life with influence means that students initiate activities for each other, propose ideas in homework, and are rewarded for engagement. World cuisine draws on cultural travel and students from other countries, focusing on healthy food, sustainability and local produce, while accommodating vegetarians and allergies. Weekends on efterskolen combine activities, learning and relaxation; many students stay at the school for extended weekends or holidays, where both social and academic experiences are in focus. Clubs and leisure offer sports, creative subjects and e-sports in the evenings, and students can continually suggest new clubs and activities. Joint events bring the whole school together in experiences such as lectures, theme parties, concerts and a big performance week that strengthens the community.
The Ranum Efterskole School Association is a free and independent efterskole with no ties to a specific political or religious foundation. Those who want to support and share knowledge about Ranum Efterskole College are invited to join the School Association. Members help shape the content of the efterskole year and can propose new profile subjects and set daily life goals in a dialogical collaboration with students, staff, the school board and the school association. Elections are held 2-3 times a year to ensure ideas and goals are represented in the community. Membership costs 50 DKK per year and is paid after the board approves the membership. To join, contact the principal; annual reports and related documents are accessible as needed.
