SEK Las Ame9ricas opened in 1996 as part of SEK9s expansion into the Americas. The first SEK International School in America opened in 1982 in Santiago, Chile. During the 1980s and 1990s, SEK opened new schools in Ecuador (1984), Panama (1986) and SEK Costa Rica (1988), and the SEK International Institution was established in 1989 with management independence from the old Madrid schools. SEK Las Ame9ricas is located in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, at C/ El Altar y Rep. de Colombia, Arroyo Hondo II.
SEK Las Ame9ricas participates in Institutional Activities across the SEK network. Residential Summer Camps and Courses at St John9s International School in Devon, England are offered for SEK students, with four-week sessions in July and August. An International English Program at Boca Prep International School provides English-language study for SEK students aged 1316; Boca Prep is a fully accredited US school. SEK centers also participate in Ski Week at Tahoe, InterSEK, a global gathering of SEK schools (26 centers), and Green Week in Costa Rica focusing on environmental topics; Green Week is based at the SEK International Institutions school and is supported by bilingual staff.
SEK Las Américas is an international school in Santo Domingo serving students aged 3 to 18 with a bespoke curriculum that blends English and Spanish from the earliest years. In preschool, children follow Playgroup plans that foster physical, intellectual, social and moral development, while elementary education builds basic procedures and literacy, with bilingual language development integrated across the curriculum. In middle and high school, learning emphasizes meaningful projects, interdisciplinarity, and the use of technology, guided by core values and a commitment to multicultural understanding and self-directed inquiry. The campus features a Library and Virtual Room for research, an in-house dining service with options, a Medical Department, and bus transport. Technology is embedded across classrooms, with programming/robotics labs, Dell devices, LEGO, a 3D printer, VR, iPads, and Google Classroom. Extracurriculars include robotics, music and dance, debate, and sports. The school offers English and French certifications and Student Council and Alumni Club.
