Wellbeing and Support

How students are nurtured, understood, and kept safe

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

The Psychology and Counseling Department collaborates with students, teachers, parents and staff to enhance the development of competencies in the academic, socio-emotional, and vocational areas. A variety of strategies are implemented, including whole-group intervention, small-group work, individual conferences, workshops for parents and students, and system-wide support meetings. The program focuses on socio-emotional development from Nido through High School and is led by psychologists in a classroom called Happy. Teachers continue to reinforce the program in their classrooms through daily sessions of about 10 minutes. Mindfulness is integrated into the program, emphasizing self-control, self-care, meaningful relationships, generosity, gratitude, empathy, growth mindset and self-motivation, guided by characters through activities that encourage reflection, concentration, emotional regulation, and resilience.

Special Educational Needs (SEN)

Academic Intervention Services support students from Kinder through Secondary School. The Special Education Teacher works with students who present difficulties in their learning process—such as minor speech delays, handwriting issues, dyslexia, reading speed, fluency, and vocabulary gaps. In the Learning Lab, students receive practice and instruction at their individual levels through a digital curriculum for reading and math. The ESOL/SSL specialist supports speakers of other languages to develop their English or Spanish language skills.

English as an Additional Language (EAL)

ESOL/SSL specialists support speakers of other languages to develop their English or Spanish language skills. The program serves students from Kinder through Secondary School. ESOL/SSL instruction is part of Academic Intervention Services.

Mental Wellbeing

The Psychology and Counseling Department leads the mental wellbeing program, collaborating with students, teachers, parents and staff to enhance the development of academic, socio-emotional, and vocational competencies. A range of strategies is used, including whole-group intervention, small-group work, individual conferences, workshops for parents and students, and system-wide support meetings. Mindfulness and social-emotional learning are emphasized, focusing on self-control, self-care, meaningful relationships, generosity, gratitude, empathy, growth mindset and self-motivation. The program includes a dedicated Happy classroom and daily classroom activities of about 10 minutes to reinforce wellbeing and resilience. A mindfulness-focused environment, the Happy Room, supports student self-regulation and concentration.
