DSBA is a German-Egyptian encounter school founded in 1884 when Sisters of the Borromäerinnen arrived in Alexandria to establish a school for German and Austrian children whose fathers were building the port. Today, predominantly Egyptian girls study here, lovingly cared for by the Sisters of the Order and by dedicated teachers and staff. The school provides German-language education and awards both the Fachhochschulreife and the Allgemeine Hochschulreife (Abitur), with many graduates studying in Germany. In Alexandria, the school is regarded as the best in the city, a reputation based on more than 130 years of tradition. Leadership shifted from the religious order to a lay German principal in 1999, and the school has repeatedly been recognized as an Exzellente Deutsche Auslandsschule.
DSBA fosters a high level of student motivation and achievement, with a relaxed, positive, and familial learning atmosphere that helps every student reach their best. Most teachers come from Germany, and each year new colleagues join to enrich the school family with fresh ideas. Intercultural collaboration is a living part of DSBA, shaping daily life and school culture beyond academic matters. The school family is a core value and central to DSBA's community.

Deutsche Schule der Borromäerinnen Alexandria is a long-established German-Egyptian Begegnungsschule serving predominantly girls aged 3 to 18. The German-language curriculum forms the spine of education from Kindergarten through Gymnasiale Oberstufe, with Arabic weekly sessions in kindergarten and English introduced in grade 4. The gymnasium offers the Deutsches Internationales Abitur (DIA), a bilingual German-English Abitur alongside the Allgemeine Hochschulreife, and the school provides a DELF French diploma via the Institut Français in Alexandria. The facility set combines a newer building with an 1981 extension housing science labs, a lecture hall, computer room, and well-stocked libraries. German remains the core language of instruction, supported by a broad co-curricular program, music ensembles (choir, orchestra, Schulband), and theatre in both German and Arabic. Extracurriculars include student clubs and service initiatives such as CHC and internships. The school emphasizes intercultural cooperation, strong German-language heritage, and many graduates pursue studies in Germany. A family-like learning culture.
