Parent Experience

Community, involvement and what it's like to be a parent at this school

History

In 1998, Prof. Dr. Gamal Nawara fulfilled a long-held dream: the founding of a German school in Egypt. He bore significant financial burdens and risks, undertaking substantial entrepreneurial effort; it is noted that his grandchildren now attend the school he founded. His main aim was to give parents connected to the German language, culture or education the opportunity to provide their children with a German-language education of high quality, with early language exposure so that even children with no German background can start in kindergarten. Today, more than twenty years after its founding, the school has grown to twelve grade levels and many students have completed the Abitur at ESK. Planning has included further expansion, such as a larger campus and a new gymnasium building added in 2008/2009, with additional projects envisioned for future growth.

Community

The school community comprises the ESK family, including the leadership team, the board, teachers and staff, students, and an alumni network. Governance and student life are supported by school bodies such as the Elternbeirat (parents' council), Lehrerbeirat (teachers' council), Schülervertretung (student council), and SV-Lehrkräfte. Activities and events include staff and schoolwide Iftar gatherings during Ramadan, geography competitions such as Diercke Wissen 2026, excursions and class trips, and a range of projects and clubs highlighted in the News/Aktuelles sections.
