Wellbeing and Support

How students are nurtured, understood, and kept safe

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

All-Met students are expected to reflect the 8 Met Character Pillars, guiding both behavior and character development. Metropolitan School prioritizes a safe, distraction-free, and supportive learning environment, with parents and staff sharing responsibility for upholding behavioral standards. The Wheel of Choices is used to help students identify problems and choose constructive solutions. Diversity and inclusion are core values embedded in school life, shaping interactions and community expectations. Discipline policy and positive behavior acknowledgments reinforce these pillars and encourage respectful, responsible conduct.

Special Educational Needs (SEN)

Diversity and inclusion are central objectives of Metropolitan School. Any requests for special accommodations must be verified by an assessment from a reputable organization. The discipline framework involves counsel and support specialists to address underlying causes and, if needed, referrals to outside assistance. The school emphasizes safeguarding and a safe environment as part of its inclusive approach. It also provides guidelines for managing behavior and accommodations within a partnership between home and school.

Mental Wellbeing

The school emphasizes a safe, supportive, and well-being oriented learning environment. Safeguarding is a central priority, with CIS-guided policies and regular updates to reflect current best practices and legal requirements. A fully equipped school clinic provides medical assessment and treatment to support student health, including procedures for medications, illness management, and vaccinations. The Student Parent Handbook highlights safety and well-being as a shared responsibility and promotes a strong home–school partnership. The school promotes inclusion and community service as means to support students' social-emotional development.

Safeguarding

Safeguarding is a shared responsibility among the school, parents, and the wider community, with open communication and regular policy reviews to reflect best practices and current legal requirements. The safeguarding framework is guided by Council of International Schools (CIS) standards to ensure high levels of care and protection. The Child Protection Officer (CPO) and campus leadership oversee policy implementation and serve as the main point of contact for safeguarding concerns. Staff training, clear reporting procedures, and a culture that prioritizes student welfare are integral to Metropolitan School's safeguarding approach. The aim is to create a secure learning environment where every child feels valued, respected, and protected.
