Wellbeing and Support

How students are nurtured, understood, and kept safe

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

The school addresses students' academic, career, social, and emotional needs through cooperation among staff, students, and parents. The Student Handbook describes the school's focus on character development and positive student behavior, supporting student wellbeing. The Mission Statement commits to developing students emotionally, physically, intellectually, and spiritually. The school emphasizes a safe and supportive learning environment to promote wellbeing and learning. A School Counselor is part of the school administration and provides counseling support to students.

Special Educational Needs (SEN)

Additional Support is available to students through consultations with the school social worker and the school counselor, as noted in the Behavior Policy. The Behavior Policy outlines a range of interventions and the possibility of a school-based plan to support individual students. A School Counselor is listed among the school administration and can be involved in student support. The Behavior Policy states that staff may refer students to the social worker or the school counselor or to the School Administration for support. This reflects an in-house framework to assist students with behavioral, social, or emotional needs.

Mental Wellbeing

Safe and secure learning environments underpin teaching and learning and support wellbeing. The Student Handbook emphasizes meeting students' social, emotional, and academic needs through school staff, students, and parents. The Mission Statement emphasizes developing students emotionally as part of holistic education. A School Counselor is available to support students' mental wellbeing. The handbook highlights wellbeing as part of the behavior and safety framework.

Safeguarding

The Security and Crisis Management Plan identifies crisis scenarios such as intruders, sexual assault, missing persons, fires and medical emergencies. It provides step-by-step guidance on response, staff responsibilities, and communications with authorities including the Educational Directorate and police. The Sexual Assault section emphasizes protecting the victim's privacy and rights and designating staff to provide support. The plan addresses suicidal behavior, noting that responses require professional judgment and may involve safeguarding actions. In-school measures include verifying attendance, safeguarding students, notifying parents, and ensuring safe collection of children. Violent incidents must be recorded and reported to administration.
