German is the language of instruction and the school follows German curricula. Georgian is taught as a language; students whose mother tongue is Georgian have mandatory instruction in Georgian as their mother tongue, while students with other mother tongues learn Georgian as a foreign language. English is taught as the first foreign language starting in Grade 3.
The school is a German-Georgian encounter school offering schooling according to German curricula. Children from German-speaking countries learn and live together with Georgian children and youths, for whom German is their second language or language of instruction. The school awards internationally recognized German school qualifications (Deutsches Internationales Abitur). The German-language kindergarten serves children aged 3 to 6, with or without German language knowledge, and Georgian children acquire German language skills in daily kindergarten life.
German-language immersion begins in the kindergarten; Georgian children learn German through daily kindergarten life; a German-language environment is provided for children from German-speaking families staying in Georgia. The school is integrated into the Georgian education system and authorized by Georgia's National Center for Educational Quality Enhancement. The authorization, granted in June 2022, is valid through June 2028, enabling smooth transitions between the two education systems.
Deutsche Internationale Schule Tbilissi is a German-Georgian encounter school for students aged 3 to 18. It belongs to Germany's network of over 140 Auslandsschulen and uses a bespoke curriculum. In the Sekundarstufe, the education plan follows the German state of Thuringia, with the school's curricula building on it. Since 2021/2022 the school offers 12 classes (grades 1–12) and graduates with the Deutsches Internationales Abitur (DIAP). Quereinsteiger can obtain the Hauptschulabschluss after grade 9 and the Realschulabschluss after grade 10. Grade 5 is an orientation stage with an individual pathway recommendation, and the school maintains close contact with students and parents. English is taught from grade 3 and French from grade 6; Georgian is taught as a mother tongue for Georgian-language students and as a foreign language for others. The Bagebi campus opened in 2017 and comprises two wings of classrooms, specialist rooms and a multipurpose hall, with spaces until 17:00.
