Parent Experience

Community, involvement and what it's like to be a parent at this school

History

The Deutsche Internationale Schule Tbilissi was established in the 2010/2011 school year in Tbilisi as a German–Georgian encounter school offering education based on German curricula. It is part of a global network of more than 140 German Auslandsschulen. Since 2010, the school and kindergarten grew each year and moved three times between 2010 and 2016 to different rented premises due to increasing enrollment. In 2015 the Georgian government transferred a greenfield site of 8,400 square meters to the school association at a symbolic price, creating the basis for a dedicated campus. From April 2016 to July 2017 the sponsoring association built a school building on this site with support from the German Federal Foreign Office; financing the campus, which also includes the kindergarten, required taking out a loan. In September 2017 the school opened its own campus with modern buildings and generous outdoor spaces for play and sport; in 2019/2020 expansion work added two side wings and a multi‑purpose hall, and since 2022/2023 the campus has been fully expanded. The school offers the German International Abitur (DIA) after 12 years of schooling.

Community

The school identifies itself as a German–Georgian encounter school and is located on a campus in a green suburban area in the Bagebi district. The news and calendar pages show active community life, including a Kindergarten Open Day on March 21, 2026; written Abitur examinations in February 2026; a Christmas market for the kindergarten and the school on December 13, 2025; and an online information event titled “Deutsches Schulportal” on November 17, 2025. The calendar also includes activities such as the Kangaroo Mathematics Competition and a Pedagogical Counseling Day for Class 12 (March 27–28, 2026), as well as fundraising events like an Easter project run by the 7th grade. These items reflect a vibrant school community with academic, cultural, and fundraising activities.
