LFIA was created in 1963 by the Association des Parents d'Elèves to educate children of French nationals at the French Embassy. It moved in 1975 to premises rented from Roman Ridge and grew from around 100 students to more than 270. In September 2000 the school moved to the East Legon premises it currently owns and took the name Ecole Française Jacques Prévert. In September 2014 it became Lycée Français Jacques Prévert d'Accra, and by September 2018 it had more than 600 students. In September 2020 the school welcomed 650 students from over 30 nationalities; since January 2021 it has been renamed Lycée Français International Jacques Prévert d'Accra.
LFIA hosts community events such as ZAC Games (17–21 March 2025); the 21 March 2025 morning session described as electrifying. The school observed the International Day of French Language Teachers on November 21, 2024. A donation drive culminated in donations presented to Coffee Beans NGO on December 20, 2023, supporting the collection of second-hand toys and hygiene products. The Family Walk-A-Thon on Saturday, June 3, 2023 marked the beginning of the school's 60th year.
All parents of pupils in the primary, middle and high school constitute the Lycée Français Jacques Prévert d'Accra PTA. The PTA is a legal requirement under Ghanaian law. All assets of the institution are owned by the PTA and it operates through a Management Board with the head teacher and persons in charge of the institution's finances and materials. General meetings occur at least twice a year, in November and June; the November meeting adopts the budget and investment policy guidelines and appoints new board members, while the June meeting closes the calendar year. The Management Board consists of 10 elected parent members, a staff representative, the Principal, a Cooperation Adviser and a Counsel, who elect a chairman, a vice-president, a treasurer, a deputy treasurer and a secretary. The PTA's work supports expansion and the use of modern equipment and it enforces careful management including regulation of school fee increases.
