Parent Experience

Community, involvement and what it's like to be a parent at this school

History

The Philippine School in Greece was established in 1997 to serve the educational needs of the children of the Filipino community in Athens. It originated from the determination of pioneering members of the Filipino community in Athens under the auspices of the Philippine Embassy in Athens. The school is incorporated as a non-stock, non-profit educational corporation and is registered as the Philippine School in Greece, Inc. with the Securities and Exchange Commission, and is governed by the Corporation Code and relevant Philippine laws and regulations. A Manual of Policies and Regulations (MOPAR) was drawn up by the Inter-Agency Committee of regulatory agencies of the Philippine government, which is amplified by the PSG Manual of Norms and Policies approved by the BOM. The school is also governed by Greek law (Law No. 4186, 17 Sept. 2013) regarding private schools, and by applicable local regulations. The Department of Education granted PSG permission to operate in 1997, and PSG was recognized by the DepEd in Oct. 2017.

Community

PSG's campus life includes a variety of events that celebrate culture and community, such as Valentine's Day @ PSG (2025), Carnival Party of PSG in Dimos Vyronas (2025), United Nation's Day @ PSG (2024), Teachers' Day @ PSG (2024), Nutrition Month @ PSG (2024), and Election Day @ PSG (2024), among other activities. These events illustrate an active calendar that engages students, families, and staff in school life.

Parent-Teacher Association

PSG operates a Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) as part of the KA.PHIL.C.A. (KATIPUNAN PHILIPPINES CULTURAL ACADEMY) structure. The President of the PTA is Luis Ilagan. The objectives of the Parent-Teacher Partnership in PSG are: to promote and work for the interest and welfare of the students including their educational, social, and physical well‑being; to provide a venue for parents and teachers to air grievances and opinions; to promote a harmonious relationship with the school administration and the community; to assist in the promotion and supervision of school activities; to provide a forum for discussion of issues related to the total school program and to ensure the cooperation of parents in its implementation; to provide mechanisms to coordinate with the wider community; and to serve as a support group and significant partner of the school.
