Wellbeing and Support

How students are nurtured, understood, and kept safe

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

Guidepost Montessori Hong Kong supports Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) through its Montessori approach, which centers on independence, social interaction, and emotional development as core outcomes. The curriculum aims to develop academic, social, and emotional skills that help children thrive beyond school. In Montessori Together settings, the Language Circle offers group sessions that combine music, movement, and language activities to foster engagement among children and their caregivers. Guides (Montessori teachers) observe and guide children's exploration to support social interaction, cooperation, and self-regulation in group contexts. The school also promotes SEL through family-facing initiatives such as monthly Guidepost Get Togethers, which connect families across campuses to build social belonging. The full dual-language environment (English and Mandarin) supports social communication and cultural awareness, contributing to SEL.

Special Educational Needs (SEN)

The school does not publicly disclose information regarding Special Educational Needs (SEN) provision, the kinds of SEN supported, whether it operates as a specialist SEN institution, or dedicated SEN staffing. Public program pages describe Montessori offerings by age groups (e.g., Nido, Toddler, Children's House, Primary) but do not mention SEN supports or facilities.

English as an Additional Language (EAL)

Guidepost Hong Kong provides a full-time dual-language environment in which English and Mandarin are used daily in the classroom. In each classroom, there is one fluent English-speaking guide and one fluent Mandarin-speaking guide, with materials presented in both languages to support bilingual learning. There is no separate EAL program described publicly; the dual-language model serves as the framework for language development and acquisition. The bilingual structure supports language development for both English and Mandarin speakers and offers immersion in both languages.

Mental Wellbeing

Mental wellbeing is supported through safeguarding and a child-centered Montessori approach. The Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy defines a four-part framework for wellbeing: Prevention, Protection, Support, and Working with parents and other agencies to protect and promote welfare. The Montessori approach emphasizes social and emotional development as part of its outcomes, aiming to cultivate independence and collaborative skills that support long-term wellbeing. Language Circle and other group activities in Montessori Together foster social interaction and emotional engagement among children and caregivers. Community-focused events such as monthly Guidepost Get Togethers further strengthen social connections among families, which contributes to a supportive wellbeing environment.

Safeguarding

Safeguarding and child protection are central to the school's practice. Guidepost Hong Kong states a commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all students and defines safeguarding as protecting children from harm, preventing impairment of health or development, ensuring safe care, and enabling best life chances. There are four main elements: Prevention, Protection, Support, and Working with parents and other agencies. A culture of safeguarding emphasizes a child-centered approach and ongoing partnership with parents and medical services to maintain a vigilant safeguarding environment.

Guidepost Montessori Mid-Levels offers a modernized Montessori education for children aged 2 to 6 years in the heart of Hong Kong Island. Recently opened in August 2024, the campus occupies three floors of the On Fung Building on Caine Road, featuring spacious, light-filled classrooms and dedicated indoor and outdoor play areas designed to foster independence and exploration. The school follows an authentic Montessori curriculum delivered through a dual-language immersion program in English and Mandarin, ensuring students develop fluency in both languages naturally. A unique feature of this location is its close integration with the Guidepost Family Club directly across the street, which provides additional facilities and community events for families. The school emphasizes a child-centered approach where students engage with scientifically designed materials at their own pace, supported by a low teacher-to-student ratio. This campus serves as a supportive community hub, offering seamless transitions from early toddlerhood through to the kindergarten years.
