Classes are mainly conducted in English and Putonghua, providing a bilingual language immersion environment. The MOI mapping shows English as the medium for English Language, Mathematics, Integrated Science, STEAM, Music, Music Ensemble, Physical Education, and Visual Arts; Putonghua is the MOI for Chinese Language, and Cantonese for Liberal Arts. From Grade 5 to Grade 8, third languages are offered (Japanese, French, German, Spanish), aligned with CEFR goals. Regular and Advanced streams exist in Modern Languages, with DELF A1, Goethe A1, DELE A1, and JLPT N5 achievable after four years.
The school provides bilingual instruction in English and Putonghua. English is used for most subjects; Putonghua is the medium for Chinese lessons, and Cantonese is used for Liberal Arts. The school maintains an EMI environment with extensive exposure to spoken and written English through a variety of activities. The school serves Primary and Secondary levels.
Language-focused activities include Language Day, English Week, and Chinese Week. Language schemes such as language stamps promote use of English and Putonghua. Overseas trips, such as the Australia Immersion Trip, provide authentic language-use experiences abroad.
HKBUAS, founded in 2006, is a through-train Grades 1–12 school in Shek Mun, Sha Tin, within easy reach of MTR Shek Mun Station (Exit D) and extensive bus/minibus routes. Teaching is mainly in English and Putonghua. Students may pursue the local pathway (HKDSE) or an international route featuring IGCSE and GCE AS/A Levels; the school reports results in Cambridge and Edexcel A Levels. Middle School includes a formal STEAM curriculum and options for a third language—French, German, Japanese, or Spanish—in addition to Chinese and English. Co-curricular life is broad, from debate and Mathematical Olympiad to Scouts, drama, musical, and sports. A signature tradition is the annual Variety Show, showcasing student performance across the arts. School bus services operate on 20+ routes.
