Lantau International School (LIS) was founded in 1995, making it one of the longer-established international primary schools on Lantau Island. The school has grown from a single campus in Tong Fuk to three campuses—Cheung Sha, Tong Fuk, and Pui O—serving Reception through Primary 6. It remains a privately owned institution, independently operated rather than part of a larger education group. Over time, LIS has maintained its focus on small class sizes and English-medium teaching following the British Curriculum.
Lantau International School’s community is centred around its close-knit island setting, bringing together families from the local and expatriate populations of South Lantau. The school organises annual celebrations, outdoor activities, and whole-school events such as the Summer Reading Challenge and sports days. Outdoor learning is a regular feature, with students taking part in beach PE, hikes, and nature-based projects, reflecting the school’s connection to the surrounding environment.
The school does not publicly disclose information regarding a Parent Teacher Association (PTA) or related events.
The Pui O campus, serving Primary 4 to 6, offers English-medium instruction under the British Curriculum with additional Mandarin lessons several times per week. Core subjects include English, mathematics, science, history, geography, and the arts, alongside weekly computer and coding classes that introduce robotics and digital literacy. Students take twice-yearly NFER assessments to track academic progress. The campus is located in Lo Wai Tsuen near Pui O Beach, providing opportunities for outdoor education such as physical education, hiking, and nature study. Small class sizes and experienced teachers help prepare students for transition to secondary education while maintaining a supportive and community-oriented atmosphere.
