Wellbeing and Support

How students are nurtured, understood, and kept safe

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)

The school’s pastoral care system supports children’s social and emotional development through close relationships between teachers, families, and the pastoral team. Staff monitor student wellbeing daily in class, and communication between home and school helps identify any changes in mood or behaviour early. Well-being surveys are used to track students’ emotional development over time. Teachers also integrate lessons that promote empathy, cooperation, and self-awareness through play and group activities in the Early Years.

Special Educational Needs (SEN)

The school follows an Additional Support Needs (ASN) policy that outlines how children with learning differences are supported. Teachers work closely with the Head of ASN and the support team to assess individual needs and develop appropriate in-class strategies. The school offers targeted support when possible, but it is not a specialist SEN institution. Each application is reviewed to determine whether the child’s needs can be met within the available resources.

English as an Additional Language (EAL)

EAL support is provided for students whose first language is not English. New students are assessed on entry to identify their English proficiency level. Beginners may receive small-group or one-to-one language sessions in place of Mandarin lessons until they are ready to join the full class curriculum. The EAL team works with classroom teachers to help students build confidence and fluency in English across all areas of learning.

Mental Wellbeing

Teachers at the Sai Kung campus play an active role in monitoring the well-being of young children through regular classroom interactions and open communication with families. The school tracks well-being through teacher observations and well-being surveys. During periods of remote or flexible learning, staff have conducted one-to-one check-ins with families to maintain emotional support. However, the school does not publicly provide details on specific counselling or external mental health programmes for this campus.

Safeguarding

The school follows a formal Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy, which outlines procedures for staff training, student welfare, and reporting. All staff members are required to complete safeguarding training, and new hires undergo background checks as part of the safe recruitment process. The campus has 24-hour on-site security and a school nurse to ensure student health and safety. Policies related to child protection and health and safety are available to parents on the school’s website.

Nord Anglia’s Sai Kung Early Years Campus serves children aged 3–5 (with Year 1 also on site). The Early Years programme follows the EYFS from the English National Curriculum and is delivered in English by specialist Early Years staff. Learning takes place in purpose-designed classrooms with play-based activities across the seven EYFS areas, including early literacy, maths, and expressive arts. Families benefit from a school bus service to and from campus. As children progress through NAIS Hong Kong, they continue into the English National Curriculum and IGCSE, then the IB Diploma Programme in Sixth Form. Distinctive partnerships enrich learning: the Juilliard–Nord Anglia Performing Arts Programme enhances music, dance, and drama, while collaboration with MIT supports hands-on STEAM projects. Average class sizes are 24, supporting close attention to each child’s development in the Early Years. Tuition details for Nursery, Reception, and Year 1 are published on the Tuition Fees page.
