Parent Experience

Community, involvement and what it's like to be a parent at this school

History

St. Joseph's Anglo-Chinese Primary School originated from St. Joseph's Anglo-Chinese School, founded in Ngau Chi Wan in 1958 by Rev. Bro. Paul Sun. Named after Saint Joseph and built on faith and love, the school was part of a Catholic education effort led by the Bro. Paul Sun. The primary school building was completed in 1987 after Bro. Sun's death in 1986, enabling the primary section to operate on its own campus. The school functions as a Catholic private non-profit making primary school for boys and is guided by the Diocese of Hong Kong, with Ad Astra meaning 'to the stars'.

Community

SJACPS fosters a Catholic community orientation and a language-rich learning environment. Regular religious observances are part of school life, including Advent Mass. The calendar features a variety of events such as Science Talk, a Tie Competition, Prizes Giving, Sports Day, and a School Picnic Day, along with Police Talks, Dress Casual Day, Book Sharing, and Thinking Tools programs. These activities foster collaboration among students, families, and staff.

Parent-Teacher Association

St. Joseph's Anglo-Chinese Primary School's Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) was formed in 1971 to support the school and to provide funds for facilities and extracurricular activities. The PTA provides a channel for parent involvement, and regular meetings are held to inform members and plan coming events, with volunteers welcome at all times. Advisors for the PTA include the Primary and Secondary section supervisors and the Principals for both sections, and the committee comprises Parent Members and Teacher Members led by a Chairperson and a Vice-chairperson, with officers for secretary and treasurer. PTA activities include formal events such as the Parent-Child Picnic on January 12, 2025, and the PTA Elections for 2022-2024, as well as Parent Meetings (May 4, 2024) and PTA Talks, including sessions on personality typologies. Parents may volunteer to help at any or all PTA events.
