Parent Experience

Community, involvement and what it's like to be a parent at this school

History

St. Paul’s College was founded in 1851 by the Reverend Vincent John Stanton, initially opening as an Anglo-Chinese school in Glenealy with one tutor and nine students. Over the years it relocated to its current site at Bonham Road and has been sponsored by the Hong Kong Sheng Kung Hui (Anglican Church) body. It is the oldest secondary school in Hong Kong that has operated continuously. The school has been governed by its own College Council under a statutory ordinance and has developed from a small mission school into a large boys’ day school.

Community

The school community participates actively in annual traditions such as the Swimming Gala, Sports Day, and the “Global Classroom” overseas trips which connect students with partner schools abroad. Alumni regularly return to support mentoring schemes, campus developments and scholarship programmes. The school’s house system (six houses) brings together students across classes to foster inter-year interaction and shared events. The community also supports service and sustainability-awareness events such as fairs and charity drives.

Parent-Teacher Association

The PTA at St. Paul’s College organises parent-volunteer events such as photography teams for school functions and uniform-recycling drives. It offers sharing sessions for parents of new secondary entrants (Forms 1-2) to help families integrate. The PTA arranges nature-and-family outings (for example to the Kadoorie Farm & Botanic Garden) and sponsors the annual “Paulines Sponsored Walk” involving students and parents. An executive committee of parents is elected each year to coordinate these activities and liaise with school management. The PTA also publishes newsletters and useful links to support home-school cooperation.
