Parent Experience

Community, involvement and what it's like to be a parent at this school

History

St. Paul's Convent School (SPCS) is a Catholic girls' secondary school in Hong Kong founded in 1854 by the Sisters of St. Paul de Chartres. It was formerly called the French Convent School and was renamed St. Paul's Convent School in December 1955. The school moved to its present Causeway Bay site in 1914, and the main building was completed in 1981, with a seven-storey Sesquicentennial Block added to celebrate 150 years. SPCS is sponsored and administered by the Sisters of St. Paul de Chartres, an international congregation with a long educational heritage. In September 2004, the school transitioned from Grant-in-aid to Direct Subsidy Scheme (DSS), reflecting its broader, holistic education mission.

Community

The school community includes students, staff, parents, and alumni who participate in a calendar of events that express the Paulinian spirit. Major milestones in the community calendar include the 170th anniversary opening mass and the subsequent homecoming gala with cultural performances. The Annual Sports Day is held at venues such as Wan Chai Sports Ground and showcases student athletics and school spirit. Family Fun Day 2025 brought together more than 13,000 guests to celebrate Paulinian heritage and community ties, while the Alumni Association coordinates gatherings and scholarships to maintain links between generations.

Parent-Teacher Association

The St. Paul's Convent School Parent-Teacher Association (SPCS PTA) connects parents and teachers to support students and school activities. An Executive Committee leads the PTA and coordinates multiple volunteer groups to organize events and campus projects. The PTA supports environmental initiatives such as the Green Corner rooftop garden and promotes sustainability across school life. Volunteer activities include Parent Volunteer Briefings to recruit and train volunteers for major events, such as the Hong Kong School Speech Festival, and the organization of community programs like the Ocean Park In-Park Programme and Dress Casual Day for The Community Chest of Hong Kong. The PTA conducts AGM formalities and provides ongoing updates and news about events, reflecting a sustained program of parent engagement.
