Wycombe Abbey School Hong Kong Prep School follows the National Curriculum for England and Wales, enriched by Hong Kong's cultural context and aligned with British Common Entrance standards. The curriculum combines Mathematics, Science, Creative and Performing Arts, and Humanities with iSTEAM, Entrepreneurship and Leadership programmes to develop critical thinking and problem-solving. The English-medium environment emphasises Mandarin and English with equal instructional time to support multilingual learners, and iSTEAM is integrated as a mandatory subject within the weekly timetable. A holistic assessment framework evaluates life skills such as resilience, collaboration, and integrity.
Extra-curricular Activities offer over 60 ECAs, including Art Club, Drama Society, Robotics Club, Music Ensemble, Debate Society, Environmental Club, Coding Club, Photography Club, Chess Club, and more. These ECAs cover creative arts, performance, and academic clubs and include opportunities in music, theatre, and public speaking. The programme encourages exploration beyond the classroom and supports holistic development.
Mandarin is taught with equal instructional time to core subjects. The Mandarin department is described as passionate and expert, fostering linguistic proficiency, cultural fluency, and confidence in using Mandarin across academic and real-world contexts.
The Prep School provides a comprehensive PE programme and sports facilities, including the highest indoor climbing wall in a school in Hong Kong. Students compete in games against top Hong Kong schools, such as Kellett, and benefit from a partnership with the Hong Kong Football Club for access to facilities and coaching. ECAs cover sports, music, arts, and academic clubs that promote teamwork and personal interests.
Year 7 and 8 students hold senior leadership roles such as prefectships, peer mentoring, and project stewardship. The school provides a seamless pathway to Senior School and offers intensive, personalised guidance for students targeting top UK boarding schools, including exam preparation and interview practice.
Pastoral care is prioritised with small class sizes and a dedicated form tutor providing individualised social, emotional, and academic support. A typical day includes assemblies and lessons starting at 8:00am, with a 12:15–1:15pm lunch and after-school ECAs from 3:15pm to 4:15pm. The Prep School campus is located at 17 Tin Wan Street, Tin Wan, Aberdeen, Hong Kong Island, and features two iSTEAM labs, science laboratories, a large drama and performance space, acoustically treated music facilities, a library, an outdoor sports ground, and a rooftop sports pitch; weekly hockey facilities are available through the Hong Kong Football Club.
Wycombe Abbey School Hong Kong’s Prep School (Years 1–8) delivers the National Curriculum for England and Wales, aligned with British Common Entrance standards. Learning is English-medium with equal weekly instructional time for Mandarin, and every class is supported by a dedicated teaching assistant. The campus in Tin Wan, Aberdeen features iSTEAM labs, science labs, a dedicated music suite, drama and performance studio, a bilingual library, football pitch, rooftop field, and the highest school climbing wall in Hong Kong. Distinctive programmes include mandatory iSTEAM, Entrepreneurship from Year 6, and an Intensive English Programme (Years 3–8). Students choose from 60+ ECAs spanning arts, robotics, debate, sport and more. The school runs a bus service across Hong Kong Island and Kowloon and is approximately 10–20 minutes’ drive from major hubs such as Repulse Bay and Central.
