Parent Experience

Community, involvement and what it's like to be a parent at this school

History

Britannica International School, Budapest was founded in 1996 by a group of distinguished educationalists, making it Hungary's longest established British international school. It opened as the first British international school in Budapest, with full accreditation from the Hungarian Ministry of Education and the UK Qualifications and Curriculum Authority. After joining the Orbital Education family of schools in 2011, the school moved into a purpose-built, award-winning building in the XII district of the Buda Hills. It is a fully accredited member of both the Council of British International Schools (COBIS) and the Council of International Schools (CIS). It offers the gold-standard A Level qualifications, recognised as the premier pre-university pathway worldwide.

Community

Britannica actively supports charitable organizations beyond the classroom and fosters a strong sense of community and empathy. Annual charity events include Brilliant Britannica in December and Spring Fayres in May to support the Bátor Tábor foundation, with additional support for Roots & Shoots and the Lajka Foundation. The school also participates in local charitable events such as the Santa Fun Run and the Budapest Bike-a-thon as a Britannica Team, and collaborates with the PSA on charitable projects with local organizations throughout the year. The community engages in initiatives such as the +1 Sandwich program with Budapest Bike Maffia and a clothing drive through Sulizsák, contributing to substantial donations for those in need.

Parent-Teacher Association

The Parent School Association (PSA) works with parents, Britannica Senior Leadership and staff to enrich the school experience and advocate for students. Any parent, guardian or staff member may join the PSA. By volunteering, parents interact with students, build friendships with other parents, and help achieve meaningful goals. Parental involvement is associated with higher student achievement and fewer discipline problems, and volunteering is presented as a worthwhile and enjoyable way to contribute to the school community.
