Introduction

Orchidea Hungarian-English Bilingual School is a Budapest-based program delivering Hungarian–English bilingual education from kindergarten through secondary school across campuses: Hajdú, Cserkesz, and Szent László. The curriculum combines the Hungarian National Core Curriculum with an English-language emphasis, culminating in a bilingual gymnasium track where upper grades study most subjects in the target language. A language-preparation year (9. KNY) starts with 18 hours per week of English and ends with a complex English exam; entry to the 9th grade requires at least a B1 certificate, and graduation aims for CEFR C1 in English. The school serves both Hungarian and international families and maintains a multicultural environment with daily use of both languages. Facilities include specialized classrooms (szaktantermek) and gymnasium on Szent László campus. The program emphasizes lifelong learning, family-like small groups, parental collaboration, and opportunities such as science fairs, trips, and student governance, plus a broad range of clubs and community service.

Billing schedule and payment terms

- Standard instalment plan: 10 monthly payments (September–June), each instalment payable by the 10th day of the month.
- Lump-sum payment option is available; a lump-sum discount applies when used (see discounts). The specific lump-sum payment deadline is set in enrolment documentation.
- Indexation: the Institution may increase the annual maintenance fee each school year (effective 1 September) by up to a total of 10% without parental consent — a baseline 3% raise plus an additional amount tied to the official education-related consumer price index (the contract sets the calculation method). Parents will be informed in writing of any indexation by May 31.
- Consequences of non-payment: failure to meet payment obligations or overdue instalments may lead to termination of the student status at the end of the school year; the start of the next school year requires full settlement of prior-year obligations by 31 August or a written agreement to settle outstanding debt. If the student status ends during the school year, accounts are to be settled between the parties by the end of that month.

Discounts and reductions

- 5% discount for lump-sum (one-off) payment.
- 5% sibling discount (applied to the highest fee).
- 10% “Orchidea's own child” discount (applicable when changing grade level internally).
- 50% employee discount (for staff).

Boarding (kollégium)

- Boarding services are not published as part of Orchidea's kindergarten/primary/gymnasium provision; no boarding fees are listed for the school's three addresses. Orchidea's institutional descriptions and programme materials identify the school as kindergarten, primary school and gymnasium (no residential provision is listed). Therefore boarding fees are not applicable.

Other costs and fees

- Meals: an étkezési térítési díj (meal fee) is charged separately; current-year meal fees are published by the Institution and the payment for meals is made directly to the Institution. (Meal amounts are published separately for each academic year.)
- Examination fees: where applicable (e.g., certain external exam registrations), exam fees or official exam-related payments apply and are charged/collected as specified in the school's exam information (examples include national matriculation-related fees collected via the school's account).
- Extracurricular / programme costs: optional activities, international exchange travel and certain programme participation costs are charged in addition to tuition and are to be borne by parents when applicable.

Refunds and account settlement

- If a student's enrolment/ student status terminates during the school year, the parties must settle accounts by the end of that month. The contract requires full settlement of prior-year payment obligations before the next school year begins (or a written agreement to settle). Specific refund mechanics (for prepayments, pro rata refunds, or registration fee refunds) are handled under the Institution's contractual settlement procedures and enrolment documentation; when the student status ends mid-year the contract expressly requires month-end settlement between the parties.

Fee payment options and invoicing

- Bank transfer is the published payment method and the Institution's bank account number appears in the student contract: MBH Bank / account number 10300002-13731029-00014902 (payments and certain exam fees are payable to that account with the required payment references). Invoicing and payment requests (for example for participation fees) are sent electronically by the school's finance office.
- No separate published information about accepting credit-card payments or online card processors is shown in the institutional documents reviewed; the school issues invoices and requests bank transfers for fees.

(Notes: annual amounts above are presented as published for the 2025/26 academic year and are shown in Hungarian forints (HUF). Monthly instalment figures are exact divisions by 10 (the school's standard 10-month payment schedule). Approximate per-term figures are shown as the annual amount divided by 3 and are identified as approximate.)
Academics

Orchidea Hungarian-English Bilingual School teaches Advanced Placement (AP), Hungarian Curriculum for students aged 3 to 18.

Curriculum

The school provides a Hungarian–English two-language education across kindergarten, primary, and secondary levels on three Budapest campuses: Hajdú, Cserkesz, and Szent László. The two-language program develops native-language skills while building high-level English proficiency and the ability to study in multiple languages. A language-preparation year (9. KNY) begins the program with 18 hours per week of English, focusing on subject-specific vocabulary; the year ends with a complex English exam. Entry to the 9th grade requires a minimum B1 language certificate, and by the upper grades most subjects are taught in the target language, with the language level expected to reach CEFR C1 by graduation. The program aligns with the National Core Curriculum and NAT requirements, and upon completion of the bilingual secondary program students can pursue higher education in Hungarian or in the language of instruction.

Student Teacher Ratio

Small class sizes; exact student-to-teacher ratio is not specified on the site.

Higher Education Progression

The Gimnázium Pedagogical Program prioritizes preparation for higher education and career choices, including a structured pathway to upper-secondary and university studies. It emphasizes a careers-oriented strategy and the ability to take exams in the target language, supporting higher education in either Hungarian or a foreign language. Preparation for higher education is explicitly stated as a goal of the program (felsőfokú tanulmányokra való felkészítés) and includes opportunities to study in the language of instruction (célnyelv) during the senior years.

Gifted and Talented

The school runs a talent development program that includes individualized learning adaptations, talent development sessions, and participation in internal and external competitions. Development facilities include a dedicated development room and qualified staff (development teacher, speech therapist, psychologist) to support personalized growth; access to the school library and facilities for individual or small-group work to nurture gifted students.

Admissions

This is particularly important for us, as it opens pathways to integration and provides the skills and abilities needed in the 21st century. During their studies, students rapidly develop native-language and foreign-language communicative competencies and target-language literacy from kindergarten through to the end of their secondary education. They acquire strategies for language learning and learning in a foreign language. Upon completion of bilingual secondary education, they may continue higher education in the target language alongside Hungarian.
