Parent Experience

Community, involvement and what it's like to be a parent at this school

History

Established in 2017, Szeged International Primary School is maintained by Kalocsai Krisztina Foundation. It is a small school with 62 students, and growth is planned while keeping numbers low. It is the only international school in the region offering an alternative schooling solution for expatriate families living and working in this area of Hungary. Hungarian Literacy, Language and Literature is part of the curriculum, and Hungarian is offered as a foreign language for families staying in Hungary temporarily. The language of instruction is English for all subjects except Hungarian language and literature.

Community

Open days and school presentations welcome prospective students and parents. Open Week events are held for visits to classes from pre-school to 8th grade. Extra-curricular clubs include chess, Woodshop, Science club, dance, beading, painting, guitar, Robocode, Spanish and yoga. The school day runs 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with after-school activities and childcare until 5:00 p.m. School trips and end-of-year piano recitals are part of the community life.

Parent-Teacher Association

The PTA is documented as Szülői Szervezet Működési Szabályzata in the Documents section. The operating regulations describe the structure and functioning of the PTA. Szeged IPS is maintained by Kalocsai Krisztina Foundation, which provides governance and oversight. The Kalocsai Krisztina Foundation's annual reports are published in the Documents area, such as the 2021 report. The Documents page also lists the Szeged IPS PTA documents, showing formal governance for parent involvement.

Located in Hungary, Szeged International Primary School serves children aged 5 to 13. The school delivers IPC and IMYC curricula in parallel with the Hungarian National Core Curriculum, with English as the language of instruction across most subjects and Hungarian language and literature taught separately. IPC is used up to Grade 5 and IMYC from Grade 6, supporting a seamless, project‑based approach that develops independent thinking. Small class sizes and a student‑centred ethos enable individualized learning, while Language Arts and Humanities form part of the IPC/IMYC framework. The school day runs 9:00 to 15:00, with after‑care to 17:00 and a range of after‑school activities. The campus offers arts, design and ICT, science, geography, health and wellbeing, and physical education. Extracurriculars include chess, woodshop, science, dance, painting, guitar, Robocode and language clubs. Founded in 2017 by the Kalocsai Krisztina Foundation, it is the region's sole international option for expatriate families in Hungary.
