Introduction

Hopetown Girls' School is a fully residential all-girls boarding school on a 50-acre campus near Dehradun, set in a Sal forest with views of the lower Mussoorie hills. Founded by Mr Kamal Sehgal, it was established as a place for five hundred girls to grow up in a supportive, joyful environment. The curriculum includes Cambridge Lower Secondary and IGCSE alongside ICSE and ISC, with strong facilities such as a large, airy library, laboratories, and arts studios. The Performing Arts Centre is state-of-the-art, and the school hosts one of the largest orchestras among schools in India. Yoga and karate are mandatory for all students, and athletics features national-level competition. Extracurriculars cover dance, music, drama, and Art and Design, plus opportunities through ISTA and a leadership, debate-focused program. A global alumni network supports leadership and service initiatives beyond school life. The Photography Club publishes its own calendar and hosts a yearly exhibition annually.

Billing schedule and payment terms

- Academic year divided into two terms: Term I (April–September) and Term II (October–March). Term I fee is payable by 31 March; Term II fee is payable by 30 September.
- Fees are raised annually (the school's published guidance notes that fees are increased each year by approximately 10% to cover inflation and salary increases). Expense bills are raised twice a year to replenish the Imprest deposit.

Boarding fees

- The school operates as a girls' residential school. The published School Fee (per term) is presented as the principal per‑term charge for students; the fee schedule does not publish a separate, distinct hostel fee amount on the published fee page. The refundable security deposit is specified as equivalent to one term's fee.

Other costs and incidental charges

- The Imprest deposit is used to cover and replenish charges such as uniforms, medical expenses, books and stationery, art materials, performing arts and club activities, extra coaching, certain trips and outings, school photographs and publications, IT costs, pocket money/tuck shop charges, dry‑cleaning, extra diet, late fees, and other incidental items listed in the school's fee notes. Additional activities outside the regular curriculum are adjusted against the Imprest deposit and billed separately. Classes held during winter holidays for board examinees and Board examination expenses will be charged extra. Expense bills to replenish Imprest are issued twice a year.

Refunds and withdrawal policy

- Written withdrawal notice: It is mandatory to give three months' written notice to the Principal before withdrawing a child prior to the end of the academic year (notice must be given latest by 31 December). If three months' written notice is not given, three months' fees will be deducted from the security deposit. If a pupil is withdrawn any time after 1 April (after the start of the academic year) then six months' fees will be deducted. The date of receipt of the withdrawal letter by the Principal is taken as the date of notice.
- Security deposit refund: A formal written request for the security deposit refund is required; security refunds are processed after the school audit and are made at the end of November.

Admissions

Admissions are open for 2026-27. The school requires registration by submitting the registration form with the registration fee, and birth certificate and academic records for the year at registration. The lower age limit for admission in Grade VI is 10 years plus as of April 1 of the joining year, with grade placement correlated to age. Grades VI–IX entrants must take an entrance examination in English, Mathematics and Hindi, conducted on specified Admissions Entrance days, in person or online as coordinated with the Admissions Officer, followed by interviews with senior faculty. Grade XI entrants applying before the final Grade X board examination must take an entrance examination in General English plus either Science and Mathematics (Science), Mathematics (Commerce), or History, Civics & Geography (Humanities); applicants after the Grade X board results may not require an entrance test. Selection is on merit and seat availability, and the Admissions Committee may reject any application. If offered a seat, the candidate must pay the Admissions fee and Security/Imprest within three weeks to secure the seat.
